Cowboy Jack is also more often known as Heath Sneyd. He started learning the basics of live sound production as a karaoke DJ in 2004, and he learned even more when he bought the equipment for his first semi-successful band in 2006. From there, he tried his hand at a wedding reception as a request from one of his childhood best friends, and it went so well that he secured another booking the day of the reception. From there it went to wrestling events, MMA and kickboxing fights, and school dances. Since then, it's all been history.
Any Average Joe can buy what he needs to make a lot of noise. It takes a passion for music to make it sound good. Whether if it's behind the drums, behind a microphone, or behind a sound board, Cowboy Jack has had a passion and love for music since he was a kid. 3 years old to be exact, when he was using straws at fast food restaurants to play the drums on empty cups and the table. 95% of what we do is music, and you don't just hear music, you feel it. Someone who is passionate about music will make sure you feel it too, and make sure you have memories that will last a lifetime!
Cowboy Jack LSP is a single-op business. That means one person will handle everything themselves. From consultations to bookings, load-in and set-up, running the show and breaking it all down, Heath will be the one go-to person that will take care of business. In the rare occasion that additional help is needed, those people will be exclusively working for Cowboy Jack LSP and their services will be secured before the event.

What an awesome experience we had Heath Sneyd and his sound company. They were very professional and affordable. I am a musician and have been a part of over 200 + weddings. Of all the weddings, he is my dj of choice. I loved their energy and enthusiasm in making our daughters wedding be a very fun event we will never forget!
First off I'd like to thank Cowboy Jack! His business is great! Great people, great sound, and great light show to go with the sound. I use Cowboy Jack for all my events and it has been the best so far that I've found and myself being an artist have been through many sound guys and still Cowboy Jack is my go to guy!!! Can't wait to see you all again at the next event!!!!!! Thanks Cowboy Jack!!
Have you talked to another DJ to said "Your DJ has to have a license."? They are just trying to block business. The truth is that for weddings and receptions, private parties, and any other event, it is the venue's responsibility to obtain proper licensing from ASCAP, SESAC, or BMI. A full article on this can be found at mydeejay.com and their wealth of information. Here's what they say:
Some DJs have been confused in the past about carrying membership in performing arts organizations like ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC because the rules differ depending on the performance type. The way their licensing is structured, it is actually the responsibility of the venue (bar, nightclub, etc.) to maintain membership and pay royalties. DJs playing for the public (so not for private events like weddings) then provide a list to the venue of the music that was played – that’s it. If a DJ plays for the public outside of a licensed establishment, then they are responsible for paying the royalties. Cowboy Jack LSP subscribes to professional memberships that satisfy these royalties. This type of copyright licensing has absolutely nothing to do with weddings and private events. Just to be sure, I went straight to the source and asked these organizations directly. Here’s what they said:
“ASCAP does not license DJs. It is the venue, establishment, or promoter of an event that is responsible for public performance licensing, not the performer. Private events such as weddings, etc. are exempt from licensing.” - Bryn Caryl, ASCAP
“BMI licenses the “public performance” of music… events such as private parties and weddings are not required to have a license.” - Jaqui Garlin, BMI
“Royalty fees are not collected for private performances.” - David Derryberry, SESAC
Every year we get calls from engaged couples who have been told that they spoke with a DJ who claimed to be “licensed” as a DJ and that most DJs aren’t. I have to assume the impetus for saying this is the same as the claim about copyright licensure – to scare people into booking them. Besides a standard business license from the state, there is no license required for running a DJ business. There is no such thing as a “DJ License,” as great as that may sound, and one will almost certainly never exist.
In short: There is no such thing as a “DJ License,” and ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC licensing does not apply to DJs or to private events.
Do you have questions, want to book a event, or collaborate on a new event? Music is built on community. Reach out, and let's make magic happen.
